Agriculture Minister inaugurates office of State Shakambhari Board in Raipur

Cultivation of horticultural crops in clusters should be promoted and farming of these crops in separate areas across State based on climate as well as soil is going to be more beneficial, said Chhattisgarh’s Agriculture and Water Resources Minister Ravindra Choubey while inaugurating the office of Chhattisgarh State Shakambhari Board in the campus of Indira Gandhi Krishi Vishwavidyalaya (IGKV) Raipur on Monday. On the occasion, the minister also extended the greetings of Cherchera festival and Maa Shakambhari Jayanti.
“With the extensive efforts of State Government in the last three years, the acreage of horticultural crops and production increased in Chhattisgarh. Under Suraju Gaon Yojana and Bari programme, around 2 lakh Baris developed across State,” said Choubey. Meanwhile, he also highlighted the prominence of Chher-Chhera festival and Maa Shakambhari Jayanti.
The Minister further said that to encourage farmers to opt cultivation of horticultural crops and ensure benefits of the government’s schemes, Shakambhari Board has been constituted. The objective of this board is to promote cultivation of vegetables, flowers-fruits and spices and strengthen the economic condition of farmers. On the occasion, the Board’s Chairman Ramkumar Patel, board members, officials of horticulture department and others were present. At national-level, Chhattisgarh is in 12th rank in terms of producing horticultural crops. The acreage of horticultural crops along with fruits, vegetables, spices, flowers, medicinal and aromatic plants reached 861603 hectare and the production is 10428053 metric tons. The acreage of horticultural crops recorded 327 percent rise and 494 percent increase in terms of production.
