At least 16 people, including six children, the youngest a day-old, were found to have contracted the Omicron’s BA.2 sub-strain, commonly called the ‘Stealth Omicron’ in Indore.
This new sub-strain of the Omicron variant of coronavirus has been detected in over 40 countries and it can even escape the RT-PCR test, the health experts say. According to the World Health Organisation, the Omicron variant has three sub-strains, BA.1, BA.2 and BA.3. While the BA.1 sub-strain is dominant among the Omicron infections reported across the world, the BA.2 sub-strain is being said to spread quickly. Of 16 cases, at least four of them, including a child, have lung involvement ranging from 15 per cent to 40 per cent. Indore also reported 4 deaths and 2,665 fresh cases of coronavirus on Monday. A 36-year-old youth, who was suffering from asthama, died of corona in Khargone.
