Jagdalpur is emerging as the new sports hub of Chhattisgarh with an eye on catering the needs of sporting talents of Bastar region. With an eye on exploring the potential among the youths of tribal region, work on smart and sustainable sports infrastructures is in full swing at Jagdalpur - the district headquarters of Bastar.
The Chhattisgarh government had embarked on an action plan with a motto ‘Khelbo-Jeetbo-Gadbo Nava Chhattisgarh’ (playing-winning-creating new Chhattisgarh) to put the state on the national map of sports.
The Synthetic football ground with running track (400 meters) is being constructed at Priyadarshini Stadium in Jagdalpur as part of the
mission to create a new Chhattisgarh. Advanced training will be provided to the players of Bastar, along with athletics training. A 100-seater sports hostel is also being constructed near the stadium.
There will be a 200 mtr synthetic athletics track which will be used for warm-up. An Archery range and training centre costing Rs 472 lakh is being developed in Dharampura area of Jagdalpur according to the international standard. A multi-purpose Indoor Hall costing Rs 438 lakh is being developed here for hosting indoor games like Kabaddi, Judo, Karate, Wrestling and Kho-Kho. This hall can also be used for volleyball, Handball, Basketball etc.
Besides football and running track, facilities for volleyball, lawn tennis, handball, basketball, badminton, indoor games like kabaddi, judo, karate, wrestling etc. are being developed. All these facilities will be enjoyed by the sports talents of Bastar region only. According to the sports department officials, Rs about Rs 30 crore will be spent on the development of these facilities.
The stadium will have sitting arrangements for about 10 to 15 thousand spectators, with a VIP stage, changing room for players, umpire room, video room, technical store room etc. Flood lights will also be installed apart from the gym, parking, etc.
The sports infrastructures are being developed in such a way that they can host national and international level events.
