RESERVE Bank of India’s Pranav Lokhande retained singles title while Juhi Gajbhiye of BOI won women’s title in the 55th Inter-bank Badminton Tournament conducted by Bankers’ Sports Council at YMCA Hall recently. Reserve Bank dominated the show by retaining inter-team title for 7th year in succession. This year a record number of 32 entries were received in singles where Lokhande of RBI retained the singles title for 7th year beating Ameya Tikalkar of Canara Bank in straight games. Women’s singles event, which has been reintroduced from this year after a gap of almost two decades, also attracted 12 entries. Gajbhiye of Bank of India recorded a convincing victory over her compatriot Snehal Wankhede (BOI) in straight games in the final.
Gaurav Rege officiated as Chief referee and was supported by Anshul Bharadbhunje. Prafulla Nandedkar, CD Manke, Rajesh Joshi, Tribhovan Meshram, Mangesh Puranik and Rupa Sheth worked hard for the success of the tournament. Results Inter-team final: RBI bt BOI (2-0) —Lokhande bt Kapil Zamre 21-12, 21-07; Lokhande-Gaurav Gupta bt Umesh Patre-Niraj Meshram 21-12, 21-10. Women’ singles (SF): Snehal Wankhede bt Himani Agrawal 15-14, 8-15,15-11; Juhi Gajbhiye bt Akshaya Purohit 15-4, 15-8. (Final): Juhi (BOI) bt Snehal Wankhede (BOI) 15-7, 15-2. Men’s singles (SF): Lokhande bt Umesh Patre (BOI) 15-10, 15-6; Ameya Tikalkar (Canara) bt Arun Singh (Union) 15-6, 15-9. (Final): Lokhande (RBI) bt Tikalkar 21-12, 21-13.
