HIMANSHI Gawande and Samiksha Yelne scored two goals each as Hill Hockey Club drubbed Nagpur Hockey Academy by five goals to two in the opening encounter of the Women’s Hockey League organised by Vidarbha Women’s Hockey Association at its Tiger’s Gap ground on Saturday. Himanshi put Hill Hockey Club ahead in the seventh minute of play and two minutes later Vaishavi Kubde doubled the lead. Samiksha then scored two quick goals in 15th and 18th minutes to put her side in a comfortable position. Nagpur Hockey Academy managed to score two goals through Jiya Singh (28th) and Akanksha Patil (35th) but Himanshi, who has played several hockey nationals for Vidarbha as well as for Maharashtra, sealed the fate with her second goal in the 37th minute of play. Earlier, the tournament was inaugurated by Vinod Trivedi, former secretary, Vidarbha Hockey Association. Corporators Sunil Agrawal, Kamlesh Chaudhary, Ravi Shirpatwar, VK Pande, Shital Singh, Gayatri Siriah, Ravi Fancis, Kuldeep Reddy, Satish Fulsunge, Vivek Siriah, Kanhaiya Fulsunge, Parvez Qureshi, Anil Daral and others were also present. The function was presided over by Mamta Trivedi. Sunil Madne made opening remarks while Pramod Jain conducted the proceedings. Kanhaiya Fulsunge proposed a vote of thanks. On Sunday: Abhinav Mahila Hockey Club vs Nagpur Academy (2.30 pm); Eram Club bs Nagpur City Police Women team (3.30 pm).
