Prof Srinivasa Varakhedi, Vice-Chancellor of Kavikulguru Kalidas Sanskrit University (KKSU), Ramtek, has been appointed Vice-Chancellor (V-C) of prestigious Central Sanskrit University, New Delhi. Prof Varakhedi received the appointment letter from Ministry of Education, Government of India on Friday evening. The Central Sanskrit University has 12 campuses, an open study centre and many affiliated colleges under its umbrella. During the four years of his term at KKSU, Ramtek, he was instrumental in introducing many important courses and starting various projects. Prof Srinivasa Varakhedi is serving as Vice-Chancellor of KKSU since December 14, 2017. He is simultaneously working as acting V-C of Gondwana University, Gadchiroli, from September 7, 2020 till date. Prof Varakhedi was Honorary Dean at the Chinmaya Eswar Gurukula for Sanskrit and Indic Traditions. He was also Vice-Chancellor (Acting) of Karnataka Sanskrit University, Bangalore from May 26, 2014 to June 15, 2015. He is a scholar of Nyaya and other ancient Indian shastras.
 
He was one of the earliest traditional scholars who took up computer programming in the area of computational linguistics, and he has been awarded the Maharshi Badarayan Vyas Samman by the President of India, for contributions in interdisciplinary research. After taking a post-graduate Vidwaduttama degree in Navya Nyaya at the Poornaprajna Vidyapeetha in Bengaluru, which he passed with a 1st rank, he joined the Language Technology Research Center, Indian Institute of Information Technology, Hyderabad, in 1998 as a researcher. He did his PhD Vidyavaridhi at the Rashtriya Sanskrit Sansthan in representing Navy Nyaya in modern technology schemes, under the guidance of Prof Haridasa Bhat. Prof Varakhedi is instrumental in strengthening KKSU since his four years tenure. He made KKSU as a first completely digitised university across the country.
 
He also started many interdisciplinary courses along with the traditional Sanskrit courses. In last four years, Prof Varakhedi had implemented different welfare and development schemes for education, research, administrative infrastructure, students, employees, teachers and staff. During his tenure, Guruji Golwalkar Gurukul had been established; separate Matoshree girls hostel was started; Panini Computer Centre was started; establishment of Dr Jichkar Knowledge resource centre; open theatre; Urjaswini Yoga and therapy centre; green premises of Ramtek and Waranga; Development of Waranga campus; scholarships for researchers; earning while learning facility; different projects, infrastructure development etc., had been started.
