In another breakthrough against online betting, Raipur Police on Sunday claimed to have arrested 12 persons allegedly indulged in online cricket betting from Raipur and neighbouring Andhra Pradesh.
“A total of 12 persons indulged in operating cricket betting through Mahadev book online application were arrested from Chhattisgarh and Andhra Pradesh,” said Additional Superintendent of Police (City) Abhishek Maheshwari, adding that so far 74 persons were arrested in connection with online betting through Mahadev application. He further informed that the arrested accused persons were identified as B Dinesh (28), V Kartik alias Sonu (22), M Venkatesh, Ayush Bharti (19), Ritik Kumar Giri (20), K Raju (32), Aman Singh Choudhary (20), A Raju Rao (30), hailing from Durg district; Ankit Choubey (22), V Venkatesh (27), M K Mouli, natives of Andhra Pradesh; and Krushal Appa (23), native of Karnataka.
From the possession of arrested accused persons, police have seized eight laptops, 23 mobile handsets, over dozens of registers containing the betting details, 10 ATM cards, and details of 10 accounts. V Dinesh and V Kartik were arrested from Avanti Vihar area under Telibandha police station here and based on the information gathered from the arrested duo, rest 10 accused persons were nabbed from Andhra Pradesh, the officer added. The bank accounts and registers seized from the arrested accused persons revealed transactions worth several crores, said ASP Maheshwari. “Saurabh Chandrakar, Kapil Chelani, Ravi Utpal and Atul Agrawal were the key operators of Mahadev application and currently they were residing in Dubai,” the officer claimed. The arrested accused persons were booked under the relevant Section of Gambling Act and further probe in this connection is underway, said the officer.
