Railways continue to pile miseries on hapless travellers in run upto Diwali leaving them frustrated to core. On eve of the festival the authorities undertook infrastructure work that is now leading to near total disruption of train traffic. The train from Pune to Nagpur and other Eastern parts of the country are facing inordinate delay thereby disrupting the set time table.
On Wednesday, two Pune bound trains, Nagpur-Pune and Ajni-Pune were rescheduled as the rake from Pune is running several hours behind schedule. Travellers were thus left in lurch as their plans drawn-up several months ahead of scheduled lay shattered. The officials had perfect answer here, as the rake from Pune is arriving late we have to rescheduled the operations, said Divisional Commercial Manager (DCM) V C Thool while talking to The Hitavada.
He said bulk messages were sent to Pune bound travellers who had booked tickets in Nagpur-Pune Express and Ajni-Pune trains. But given the issues with delivery of message many of the travellers learnt about rescheduling only after reaching the station. On paper the trains leaving Nagpur today were rescheduled to Thursday, practically they are nothing less than cancelled. This is so as on Wednesday both the train did not start from Nagpur.
Central Railway has sanctioned non-interlocking work between Kashti (KSTH) to Belvandi (BWD) under its Solapur Division that has lead to collapse of the train time table. The block is taken for double line work that is under progress on Daund (DD) to Manmad (MMR) section to enhanced track capacity. Traveller however are caught in a near hopeless situation and are clueless on how to wriggle out of the situation that they have landed courtesy the Indian Railways.
During the non-interlocking work, the movement of trains is controlled as power supply of Over Head Equipment (OHE) is suspended for some interval during which technicians carry out inter connections of points.
Similarly during the said period trains movement also slows down which in turn affect the punctuality. Pune-Nagpur-Pune has huge patronage and all trains run jam packed round the year and hence travellers expected that atleast during the Diwali time atleast railways could have spared them the trouble.
To make matters worse for travellers, their political leaders from the region are maintaining a studied silence and have yet not taken the bull by horns, unlike their Western Maharashtra counterparts who are quite sensitive on issues of public inconvenience.
