RAIPUR,
Chhattisgarh Nagrik Sangharsh Samiti (CNSS) contested the pollution data of Chhattisgarh Environment Conservation Board (CECB) that air pollution level remained low during Diwali, while claiming that Raipur denizens breathed polluted air.
However, the constant blowing of air at 9 to 10 km reduced the pollution level. The maximum average of PM 2.5 should be 40 mg, but shouldn’t be over 60 mg on any day within 24 hours. Similarly, the level of PM-10 should be 60 mg maximum, but not over 100 mg in 24 hours on any day.
According to the world health organisation, PM-2.5 shouldn’t be over 15 in 24 hours. Samiti Dr Rakesh Gupta claimed PM-2.5 is tiny matter to the size of 30 times smaller than human hair. It directly harms the lungs, causes breathing ailments and allergy as well as numerous other diseases.
State Health Research Center Raipur’s online real time data suggested that PM-2.5 was at 362 at Ambedkar Awas Gudhiyari, 208 at Sarona Urla, 160 at Birgaon and 203 at Tatibandh. A day ahead of Diwali, PM-2.5 was at 126 at Shankar Nagar and 346 on the night of Diwali at 11 pm. At Devendra Nagar Chowk, it was at 156 at 9 pm and 208 at Collector Chowk. State Health Resources Center data suggested that level of PM-10 was at 401 at Ambedkar Awas Gudhiyari, 227 at Sarora Urla, 168 at Birgaon, 206 at Tatibandh on the night of Diwali. Ahead of Diwali at Shankar Nagar, it was at 146 and on the night of Diwali at 257 at 8.45 pm and 401 at 11 pm. At Devendra nagar Chowk near Officer’s Colony, PM-10 level was 180 at 9 pm and 299 at Collector Chowk. CNSS claimed CECB officers are misleading the people. The board has installed online display system at their Headquarters at Naya Raipur. They have secretary to scientists who knows about the correct standards. They give incomplete information. Urban areas of Raipur were the most polluted, but data of Agriculture College and Bhatgaon are being showed at Naya Raipur. The display at Collector Office Raipur was showing PM-10 level at 00, whereas, it was 300 on the night of Diwali. CNSS member Manjeet kaur Bal said that the board should shut down the meter if it’s broken instead of misleading the people. They should install online real time monitoring system in the city
