Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel inaugurated Chhattisgarhiya Olympics at Sardar Balbir Singh Juneja Indoor Stadium Budhapara in State Capital on Thursday. He lighted the ceremonial lamp to inaugurate the mega event.
Addressing the programme, CM Baghel said that the Chhattisgarhi culture and its unique identity is from its rural traditions and customs. Traditional games have special importance in the state. In the last few years, people were forgetting these games of Chhattisgarh. Chhattisgarhiya Olympic Games have been started in order to make the sports sustainable and to make them aware of the coming generation, he added.
The Chief Minister further said that these games of Chhattisgarh are not only entertaining, but also beneficial for health. In rural areas, children, elderly and youth engage in physical activities like exercise etc. The Chief Minister said that sports are being promoted the culture of Chhattisgarh. Traditional games will be organized in every village, every block and every district under Chhattisgarhiya Olympics, he added.
In his address, Sports and Youth Welfare Department Minister Umesh Patel said that Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel government is making every effort to promote Chhattisgarhi language, food, folk art, culture, sports and to get it
recognized outside Chhattisgarh as well Agriculture Minister Ravindra Choubey, Home Minister Tamradhwaj Sahu, Forest Minister Mohammad Akbar, Urban Administration and Development Department Minister Dr Shiv Kumar Dahariya, Parliamentary Secretary Vikas Upadhyay, Mayor Aijaz Dhebar, Chhattisgarh Housing Board Chairman Kuldeep Juneja, State Commission for Women Chairperson Dr Kiranmayi Nayak, Raipur Rural MLA Satyanarayan Sharma, Jila Panchayat President Domeshwari Verma, State Youth Commission Chairman Jitendra Mudliyar, Additional Chief Secretaries Renu G Pillay, Subrat Sahoo, Secretary of Sports Department Neelam Namdeo Ekka, Director of Sports and Youth Welfare Department Shweta Sinha and others were present. The Chhattisgarhiya Olympics is being organised from October 6 to January 6, 2023. Fourteen traditional sports are being featured at Olympics for both team and individual categories. Competitions of Gilli danda, pitthool, Langdi Daud, Banti (kancha), Billas, Fugdi, Gedi, and Bhavara(spin top) are being organised. Events are being held in six levels, there will be separate categories for men and women.
