Huge effigies of Ravana burnt on Vijayadashami

After two years of subdued celebration, Dussehra, also known as Vijayadashami was celebrated on a grand scale on Wednesday and Thursday as people visited the fairground in their nearby areas to celebrate the festival with their family and friends.
Residents from Bhilai and Durg were soaked in joyful mood as they enthusiastically celebrated Dussehra by setting ablaze towering effigies of Ravana along with his son Meghnad and brother Kumbhkaran, marking triumph of good over evil.
Signifying the triumph of good over evil, Dussehra is celebrated with much gusto and fanfare and in several forms and almost all parts of India. Huge effigies of demon king Ravana were burnt at various places to mark the occasion.
As the 10-day Navratri festival concluded on Wednesday, immersion ceremony of Durga idols was also carried out by various samitis. In Bhilai, New Civic Center, ITI Ground Power Hosue, Shriram Chowk Khursipar, Sector-7 Ground, Dussehra maidan, Shanti Nagar etc were among other popular venues of Dussehra celebration across the city.
Meanwhile, some of the children had prepared small effigies of Ravana of their own and burnt those effigies in presence of their parents.
Traffic at many places in the city remained affected for hours in the evening due to the processions.
Elaborate security arrangements were made to ensure that the festivities go without any untoward incident.
