CITY Police, on Thursday, clamped Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (Cr.PC) in Jaripatka and Pachpaoli areas after hundreds of activists of Bharat Mukti Morcha and Bahujan Kranti Morcha assembled at Bezonbag Ground and clashed with the cops at nearby places to participate in a protest march against the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) despite denial of permission for the agitation.
Cops detained hundreds of activists, including Waman Meshram, National President of Bharat Mukti Morcha (BMM), Bahujan Kranti Morcha (BKM) and Backward and Minority Communities Employees Federation (BAMCEF) in the afternoon.
As tension erupted after hundreds of activists resorted to slogan-shouting and clashed with the police at Indora Square, the orders under Section 144 of the Cr.PC were issued by Commissioner of Police Amitesh Kumar in view of the nuisance of apprehended danger.
The activists of BMM, BAMCEF and BKM, who had come to the city from different parts of the country, decided to go ahead with the agitation even after they were denied permission. The High Court, too, had turned down their plea for the march. Commissioner of Police Amitesh Kumar said, “In the wake of law and order situation, we did not permit them to take out the march and organise rally at Bezonbag Ground. As they did not cooperate with the police, about 2500 activists along with their leaders have been detained.”
Leaders of Bharat Mukti Morcha and Bahujan Kranti Morcha had organised the rally leveling allegations against the RSS and the ruling BJP. The rally was to be inaugurated by Justice Virendra Singh Yadav, former Judge of Allahabad High Court in the presence of Meshram, Bhante Harsh Bodhi of Rashtriya Buddhist Sangh, Buddha Gaya, Bihar, Choudhary Vikas Patel, President of Rashtriya Pichada Varg Morcha and Hifzul Rahman (Malegaon).
After the orders were issued to prohibit assembly of four and more persons in Jaripatka and Pachpaoli areas, BMM Chief Meshram was detained along with others.
Later, Meshram called off the agitation and appealed to the activists on social media not to resort to violence and
cooperate with the police. He also appealed to the protesters to return to their native places.
Speaking to ‘The Hitavada,’ a senior official officers said that police force was deployed at all sensitive places in Jaripatka and Pachpaoli areas to prevent any untoward incident.
