EPFO Regional Office seizes accounts of JMC to recover dues worth Rs 1.65 cr

Employees Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) Regional Office Jabalpur has seized the bank accounts of Jabalpur Municipal Corporation (JMC) for recovery of dues worth Rs 1.65 crore. The amount was due on the part of several contractors assigned by Jabalpur Municipal Corporation.
Regional Provident Commissioner Rakesh Sahrawat informed that they have started a special campaign for recovery of PF dues from employers which will be continued till March 2023. He added that JMC has assigned Maa Rewa Shramik Safai Kamgar Sahkari Samiti Maryadit, Ganga Safai Shramik Kalyan Samiti, Sanskardhani Safai Kamgar Sahkari Samiti and Sulabh Seva Organisation. These agencies have violated norms of Employees Provident Fund Organisation 1952 by not depositing PF and EPRO had released order for payment of dues worth Rs 3,31,98,854 on November 19, 2018 but these agencies failed to deposit the dues. Regional Commissioner-I added that following non-payment of dues, separate cases were filed against four institutions before Central Government Industrial Court (CGIT Court). CGIT Court in its interim order dated February 14, 2019, had directed the employers to deposit 50 per cent of dues and continued hearing into the case. On October 19, 2022, CGIT released order in favour of EPFO and ordered four committees for depositing the entire dues.
Regional Commissioner Rakesh Sahrawat further informed that Recovery Officer Kanta Kotwani has seized bank account of Chief Employer Jabalpur Municipal Corporation for recovery of dues worth Rs 1.65 crore under Section 8F of Employees Provident Fund Rule 1952. Sahrawat informed that the special campaign for recovery of pending dues is being carried out on war footing which will be continued till March 2023. He has made an appeal towards employers to ensure payment of EPFO deposit to avoid any inconvenience.
