Congress candidate Savitri Mandavi and BJP nominee Brahmanand Netam filed their nominations for Bhanupratappur by-poll at Collectorate Kanker on the last day of the nomination, on Thursday.
Talking to ‘The Hitavada’ over telephone, Returning Officer for Bhanupratappur by-poll Sumit Agrawal said that a total of 39 candidates filed their nominations for the Bhanupratappur by-poll, even as 44 nominations were received. “Though the filing of nominations ended at 3 pm, tokens were earlier distributed among the candidates to manage the rush. Finally, the submissions of nominations from all candidates were over by 6 pm at Collectorate,” he added.
Earlier, the Congress nominee Savitri Mandavi along with Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, State Congress Chief Mohan Markam and other Congress leaders reached the Collectorate to file the nomination before the Returning Officer. Apropos, the BJP candidate Brahmanand Netam along with former Chief Minister Dr Raman Singh, State President Arun Sao, Leader of Opposition in Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly Narayan Chandel reached the Collectorate and handed over the nomination to the Returning Officer.
Similarly, 37 other candidates also filed their nominations for the by-poll. Moreover, a public meeting was also organised by the Congress party in Kanker town where Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, State Congress Chief Mohan Markam and other Congress leaders addressed the meeting. Post the nomination filing, a similar public meeting was also organised by the BJP where Dr Raman Singh, Arun Sao, Narayan Chandel and other BJP leaders addressed the public meeting. In the meantime, according to official sources, scrutiny of nominations will be held on Friday even as the deadline for the candidates to withdraw their names has been set till November 21. Sources further said that the voting for Bhanupratappur by polls will be held on December 5 whereas counting of votes has been scheduled for December 8. “Around 1, 97,678 voters, including 1, 01,491 females, 1 third gender and 855 identified persons with disabilities from Bhanupratappur assembly constituency would exercise their franchise. Moreover, there are 3490 young voters, who age between 18 and 19 years while 548 service voters including 19 females have been recorded for whom Electronically Transmitted Postal Ballot System (ETPBS) will be issued for the service voters,” the sources added.
