The campaign for Senate polls for Principal, Management, Teachers categories of Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University (RTMNU) will end on Saturday. The voters will exercise their franchise on November 20.
Though several groups have joined hands to defeat Vidyapeeth Shikshan Manch, the Manch has an edge over others.
The advantage to Manch is its early start of campaign, its work getting resolved pursuance etc. Young Teachers Association, Secular group, Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Teachers Organisation have formed alliance and fielded their candidates accordingly.
Administration has geared up to conduct polls. There are 85 polling centres marked for the voting in all four districts-- Nagpur, Wardha, Gondia and Bhandara including Nagpur rural. According to experts there is less enthusiasm in the polls because of several nominations to be done either by Chancellor and Vice-Chancellor. Several categories may witness one-side fights.
After the High Court verdict RTMNU election cell has incorporated names of Dr Priya Wanjari (Open), Dr D V Naik (OBC) both in Principal category and Adv Mohan Wasnik (Open) in Management category.
In Management category neither group found any candidate in Scheduled Tribe category. In Open eight candidates are in fray for four seats. Of the eight candidates two are first-timers-- Ajay Agrawal and Kajol Rotele, both belong to Shikshan Manch. Ajay Agrawal who is an educationist as well as industrialist has focussed on developing strong industry-institute linkage, not only in technical courses but in other courses too. Along with Agrawal and Rotele, there are two more members who can be called as young ones. They include Abhijit Gupta and Dr Smeeta Wanjari, both were fielded by Young Teachers group. In last polls Gupta and Dr Wanjari contested from Secular Group led by Dr Vedprakash Mishra. This time Dr Mishra has kept himself aloof and Adv Abhijit Wanjari is carrying the baton. Both rival groups of the past-- Young Teachers and Secular have formed alliance this time.
Management category has stalwarts like Dr Baban Taywade, Dr Rajesh Bhoyar along with Milind Balkhande, Anurag Bhoyar, Diwakar Game, Umesh Tulaskar. There is a tough fight on cards.
Similarly in Principals in Women category the candidates like Dr Urmila Dabir and Dr Sharayu Taywade are in fray. Both these women had won the last Senate polls. It is interesting to see their fight this time. Jaywant Wadate of Dhanwate National College filed his nomination papers for Principals (NT) from Shikshan Manch. Since no candidate filed nomination in this category, Wadate won it unopposed.
