‘RTMNU old building to play more student-centric role’

 

 

 

With almost all administrative departments shifted to Jamnalal Bajaj Bhavan of Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University (RTMNU) near Guru Nanak Bhavan, the old building of the university near Maharajbag is lying vacant. Vice-Chancellor Dr Subhash Chaudhari and Pro-Vice Chancellor Dr Sanjay Dudhe have planned to make best use of the building by ensuring it plays more student-centric role. RTMNU’s examination-related all departments have already shifted to the premises of Laxminarayan Institute of Technology (LIT). The College Section, Academic Section, BC Cell, General Administration, Vice-Chancellor and Pro-Vice Chancellor all were operating in the old building. Two years ago, all departments, excluding College Section, BC Cell and Pro-Vice Chancellor’s office, were shifted to Bajaj Bhavan. Now, College Section has been shifted to the new building. Since the university has taken maximum work on-line, the manual printing work has been reduced drastically.

 

Due to this, number of employees in Printing Department also has decreased. For years together Department of Student’s Development is functioning in University’s Buty Hall in a small room. There is no proper office for National Service Scheme (NSS). Very few people are aware of the Linguistic Department. Considering all these aspects, University has decided to make right use of the old building. Dr Sanjay Dudhe revealed the plans while talking to ‘The Hitavada’, “Our students development department, NSS don’t have a designated space. We have planned to bring their offices to the old building. There was a need to have Placement Cell in the university which we re-introduced. It was there earlier also but was not functioning properly. Now, it will function from the chamber where Management Council members used to sit.” “Secondly, I feel our Linguistic Department remained neglected. There is little awareness about University running courses like German, French, Japanese etc. We want to promote those. With this thought we have asked its head to shift the department to be housed in the building where earlier Pro-Vice Chancellors used to sit. In its upstairs there was a revaluation section and godown used to be there at the ground floor. This complete part will have Linguistic department. We will raise a huge board in our premises advertising our own department so as to make people know about the courses,” explained Dr Dudhe. Dr Dudhe had sent a letter to Head of Linguistic Department, a year ago, asking him to shift the department to old building. According to him, no response to the demad has been received from the HoD.

 

 Social Work, Geography departments introduced Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University has started two new departments-- Post Graduate Teaching Department (PGTD) of Social Work and PGTD of Geography. Both departments are promoted for the admissions for the academic year 2022-23 and both received a good response. Social Work department at present is housed in PGTD Sociology in Campus while Geography in PGTD Geology, inside the premises of Dr Ambedkar College of Law conducted by RTMNU. Both departments may be shifted to old building of university. Dr Sanjay Dudhe, while talking to ‘The Hitavada’, said, “We are planning to start course in Criminology. This course is available in very few institutions in the country. But this course assumes importance as far as job prospects are concerned. It is under consideration and I hope by next academic year we may start the course.”
