Three motorcycles of Police were set afire near Vasantrao Naik slums in Sitabuldi police station area in the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday. The Police are trying hard to identify the culprits involved in the crime. A Police Chowkie was set up near the slum after the locals had killed the brother of gangster Bhuru a few years back. The policemen used to park their vehicles at the Chowki and patrol the area in Government vehicles. Constable Shyam Pandey, Mohan Paradkar and Digambar Bhoyar posted at Sitabuldi Police Station had night duty on Saturday. The trio parked their vehicles in front of the outpost and went patrolling in Government vehicles. Unidentified persons set the vehicles afire at around 2 am. Locals alerted the police about the incident.
 
The Police staff rushed to the spot and called a fire tender. The fire was doused at around 2.30 am. The vehicles were completely damaged in the fire. A police official said that someone deliberately set the vehicles on fire. “We are checking CCTV footage and also activated informers to identify the culprit,” he said. A case was registered by Sitabuldi police against an unidentified person.
