In a daring day-light robbery, two armed men barged into an apartment in Laxmi Nagar and looted cash and jewellery worth 2.80 lakh after threatening a girl at gunpoint on Monday afternoon, police officials said.
The residents panicked after the sensational robbery and demanded immediate arrest of the culprits. The complainant in the case is - Janhvi Sudhir Hiwarkar (23), a resident of Flat No 103, Ujjwal Apartment, Plot No J-2, near Laxmi Nagar ground.
As Janhvi was sleeping at home, her mother, who was going to sister’s place, locked the door from outside, said a police official.
The cops are suspecting that the robbers might have come to commit theft in the locked house. Both flats including Hiwarkar’s one were locked from the outside at the first floor. “After not getting anything from the first flat, the robbers entered into the flat of Hiwarkar after breaking open the lock of the door at around 12.50 pm,” said DCP Zone I Lohit Matani, who visited the spot. Janhvi woke up only to see two persons holding a gun in their
hand and threatening her with life. She was shocked and unable to alert anyone. When robbers asked her about valuables, the panicked girl showed them almirah, the police official said.
One of them opened the almirah and collected entire gold ornaments including three gold mangalsutra, four rings and Rs 5,000/- cash. They then pushed the young girl into the bathroom and locked her before fleeing the spot, the police said.
As the girl was not having her mobile phone with her, she threw some clothes on a person who was walking through the road adjacent to the apartment. The man suspected something amiss and entered the flat. He opened the bathroom door and learnt about the daring robbery. Bajaj Nagar Police was informed by the girl on telephone.
Staff of Bajaj Nagar Police rushed to the spot and checked CCTV footage to get a clue about the robbers. An offence under Sections 380, 342, 34 of Indian Penal Code read with Sections 3, 25 of Arms Act was registered by the police.
