CENTRAL Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Thursday finally arrested Sudhanshu Shrivastava, Sub-Area Manager, of Western Coalfields Limited (WCL), Makardhokra Site-III, Umred, on corruption charges. Shrivastava was booked by the CBI after catching Amit Sinha, an employee of M/s Sainik Mining & Allied Services Limited, red-handed while demanding and accepting bribe of Rs 32,000 on his behalf from a contractor to release his two earth-moving machines following cancellation of his contract by WCL, on January 29. As Shrivastava was found COVID-19 positive, the CBI could not arrest him.

After completing all legal formalities, CBI obtained an order from the Special Court and arrested him on Thursday. Shrivastava had initially demanded Rs 50,000 from the contractor through Sinha for release of the machines. Sinha too had demanded Rs 2000 extra from him to settle the matter being the middle man. After negotiation, the deal was fixed at Rs 32,000. After receiving the complaint from the contractor, CBI trapped Sinha while accepting the bribe amount on Srivastava’s behalf. Shrivastava would be produced before the Special Court by CBI’s Anit-Corruption Unit on Friday. Further investigations are being conducted under the supervision of Senior Superintendent of Police (CBI) M S Khan.
