CENTRAL Goods and Services Tax (CGST), Nagpur Zone has large number of important posts which are lying vacant affecting the efficient working of the department and control the increasing tax evasion. In this regard a letter has been recently sent to the Chairman of Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC), North Block, New Delhi. The letter mentioned that in CGST, Nagpur Zone the sanctioned strength for the post of Principal Commissioners and Commissioners is 9 whereas only 4 posts are occupied. Also, the sanctioned strength for the post of Joint Commissioners and Additional Commissioners is 21 whereas only 10 posts are occupied. Similarly, the sanctioned strength for the post of Assistant Commissioners and Deputy Commissioners is 107 out of which only 47 posts are occupied. A total 86 high level posts are lying vacant in CGST, Nagpur Zone.

“The CBIC should fill up these posts at the earliest as the evasion in GST is increasing day by day. The current workforce is not sufficient to control the tax evasion. To make matters worse arrears of crores of rupees are pending against the tax evaders. Also, there are large number of cases pending for adjudication. Lack of adequate workforce is hampering the working of the CGST department,” said Sanjay Thul, President of All India Federation of Customs, Central Excise and GST SC/ST Employees Welfare Organisations.

Apart from this, Thul highlighted that the around 2,000 posts of Assistant Commissioners are lying vacant across the country. In view of this, Thul demanded the Directorate General of Human Resources Department (DG-HRD) to release a seniority list of Superintendents and fill up 2,000 vacant posts of Assistant Commissioner. “The seniority list has not been prepared since 2006. With around 43,000 vacant posts in all the grades in the country, the priority should to fill up these posts and streamline the working of the CGST department and control the tax evasion.” Thul added.
