“PRODUCT management goals can be achieved by leveraging own influences and effective use of data resources”, said Prasanna Kodolikar, Vice-President, Global Product Management, Honey Well, SCS. He was speaking on the topic of ‘Myths Busted – Product Management’ at the online ‘Wisdom Hour’ organised every Sunday by Vidarbha Management Association (VMA). Kodolikar further said, “Product manager’s job is not done with the launch of product and is a continuous process. While doing so, identifying the points of influence and leveraging it for own product is very crucial.” Product management is the role and function within an organisation that is responsible for overall success of a product. Product managers work with groups inside and outside of the company to build and execute a plan to make sure the product best meets its financial and strategic goals. While busting various myths on the interchanging roles of product managers and project managers, he clarified that although product managers and project managers often work together, they have distinct roles.

While a product manager sets the vision, goals, and business trajectory of a product, a project manager leads the projects to make those goals a reality. Kodolikar mentioned that it is myth that product management is same in every company. He explained that day-to-day responsibilities of a product manager vary across different types of businesses. However, all product management roles entail certain universal tasks that are critical to furthering a product development lifecycle. Vidarbha Management Association is based at Nagpur and meets every Sunday at 10.30 am. VMA is dedicated to impart learning related to business management and leadership to its members. Vidarbha Management Association is a non-profit organisation and is currently in its 17th successful year of operation.
