Maharashtra Government has declared public holiday on Monday as a mark of respect to Bharat Ratna Lata Mangeshkar who passed away on Sunday. The notification issued by Maharashtra Government’s General Administration Department says, death of Lata Mangeshkar is an irreparable loss to the world of music and art. To pay her respect, Government has taken the decision of declaring holiday under Section 25 of Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881. State will also have three-day mourning. Due to declaration of public holiday, all Government offices, schools, colleges will remain closed on Monday. School Education and Higher and Technical Education Departments have not issued any separate circular regarding the holiday.
 
While the School Education Department has informed the authorities concerned, Higher and Technical Education Department, too, has informed universities about the decision of holiday. Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University (RTMNU) has examination scheduled for Monday. Director of Board of Examinations and Evaluation, RTMNU Dr Praful Sable said that all examinations scheduled on Monday will be held as per the timetable. “We are conducting all examinations on-line. Students don’t have to go anywhere outside so we have decided to go ahead with our schedule,” Dr Sable told ‘The Hitavada’. During mourning no official functions of Government will be held. Those scheduled will be stand cancelled, the official in Mantralaya said.
