Nagpur Metropolitan Region Development Authority (NMRDA) has issued notices to 3,033 unauthorised constructions and has taken action against 35 of them, stated Eknath Shinde, Urban Development Minister, in Legislative Council.
Shinde made the statement in reply to a starred question raised by Chandrashekhar Bawankule, BJP MLC. Bawankule sought to know if NMRDA had given a contract to a private company to prepare a draft for regularisation of unauthorised constructions. Also, Bawankule sought to know if the said draft had found around10,000 constructions and two lakh plots as unauthorised in 719 villages under the jurisdiction of NMRDA.
In reply, Shinde stated that barring the areas of new Nagar Panchayats/Municipal Councils, the area under the jurisdiction of NMRDA included 710 villages. NMRDA being competent planning authority, its permission is mandatory for any development/construction. For the purpose, development charges are to be paid by the developer/land-owner concerned.
However, Shinde denied that the contract for preparing draft for regularisation of unauthorised constructions was given to any private company.
As per the Government Resolution dated October 7, 2017, NMRDA has invited applications for regularisation/ compounding of unauthorised constructions.
According to Shinde, NMRDA received total 12,378 applications in this regard. After survey, NMRDA has issued notices to 3,033 unauthorised constructions as per the provisions under Section 53 of the Maharashtra Regional and Town Planning Act, 1966. So far, action has been taken against 35 such unauthorised constructions, he added.
