Dr Sanjeev Chaudhary, well-known Orthopedic Surgeon from Nagpur, has taken charge of Regional office of Maharashtra University of Health Sciences (MUHS) as its Co-ordinator. Dr Chaudhary is the Member of Management Council of MUHS. Dr Manisha Kothekar, whose tenure as regional co-ordinator ended, handed over the charge to Dr Chaudhary. There are six regional offices of MUHS in Maharashtra. They include Mumbai, Nagpur, Aurangabad, Pune, Nashik and Kolhapur. The regional offices have been established with a thought to decentralise the work of the university. Regional Co-ordinator has to handle several important duties.

The regional offices are expected to focus on peculiar sectors related to that region. For example, Vidarbha has districts having large tribal population so Nagpur’s regional office housed in Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) premises, is called as tribal health centre. During the tenure of Dr Manisha Kothekar, the regional office had started fellowship on tribal health for which it has signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Dr Prakash Amte who runs Lok Biradari Prakalp at Hemalkasa. Now Dr Sanjeev Chaudhary has to monitor it. All the medical, ayurved, homoeopathy, unani, physiotherapy etc colleges functioning in Vidarbha are under the jurisdiction of regional centre. Dr Chaudhary will be helping these colleges in resolving their issues, grievances if any.

The centre is expected to hold workshops on research methodology, health and medical technology for the students, teachers. MUHS runs courses on ophthalmic science and optometry. Secondly all the PG dissertation works, PhD thesis are submitted at regional centres are to be sent to the head office. Dr Chaudhary will take care of all these responsibilities. The regional centre for MUHS was established in the year 2010 with an objective to coordinate activities of MUHS for Vidarbha region.
