Bhopal’s promising weightlifter Himanshu Thapa brought laurels to the State by winning a bronze medal in the national weightlifting competition held at Bhubaneswar in Odisha. With this, he has joined the Indian camp. Around 800 players from across the country participated in this competition. Himanshu won the bronze medal for MP by lifting a total of 280 kg in the 89 kg weight category. Himanshu lifted 125 kg in snatch and 155 kg in clean and jerk. Himanshu of Sant Hirdaram Nagar is undergoing training under the guidance of NIS Coach Pramod Karthikeya. He said that Himanshu is a very talented player, if he gets proper training and diet, he can win medals for the country. Coach Pramod Karthikeya said that Himanshu is a very hardworking player, the financial condition of his family is not good, if he gets proper diet and facilities from the government, then he can win medals for the country.
Bhopal’s Manju wins gold medal: Representing the country, State capital’s sprinter Manju Yadav won a gold medal in the 10 kilometre women’s team championship of South Asian cross country. Apart from this, Manju Yadav also won a gold medal in the team championship
for Railways in the 10 kilometre women’s section of the 56th National Cross Country. She also won a silver medal in women’s 10 kilometre by finishing second. Manju said that since 2018 she is taking the services of Bhopal’s sports recovery expert Chetna Sengar, who has seen a lot of improvement in her performance and has also been helpful in winning medals. Right now Manju’s target is to win a medal in Asian cross country. Manju is training under the guidance of athletics coach S K Prasad.
