A city-based start-up firm has developed and patented a smart safety bullet-proof uniform, capable of sustaining hard steel core bullets, for Indian Armed Forces and paramilitary troops. C-Torkestor Manufacturing Pvt. Ltd, run by two city inventors, developed the first-of-its-kind bullet-proof uniform named ‘CTA’, which is certified by CSIR-Central Scientific Instruments Organisation(CSIO), Chandigarh. “Normally, all bullet-proof jackets protect the upper body. However, the lower body is vulnerable to bullet wound. Our CTA is a complete camouflage bullet-proof uniform, which helps to protect the person from top to bottom,” Ashutosh Mahajan, Co-Founder and Innovator, C-Torkestor Manufacturing Pvt. Ltd told ‘The Hitavada’. Shruti Narnaware is also the Co-Founder of the company, who handles the technical part of the company. This BP uniform is equipped with spy camera, GPS sensor and mines detector sensor, which help to capture photos and also, to trace the person’s location through GPS satellite.

The uniform gives protection from all weather terrain, including high altitude areas. The uniform is made up of non-absorbent fibres and synthetic insulators. Like other BP jackets, this uniform is also made up of ‘Kevlar’, which is a very strong and durable fibre. The fibres are woven together very tightly to form the bullet-proof panel. “The weight of the uniform is about 6.5 kg, which can protect a person from hard steel core bullets of AK-47. It also gives safety from live mines from a distance of 3-5 metres to the person through a beeping sound,” said Mahajan. “We have received offers from some Dubai and Singapore-based companies to hand over the innovation to them. But we want to make this uniform only for our Indian Armed Forces and Paramilitary forces.

We have a capacity to manufacture about 50,000 such uniforms per year. If Government helps us, then we can double the production for the country,” Mahajan added. The start-up has also got an order of 10,000 such BP uniforms from a private security company, but the company refused to manufacture this uniform for any private company citing sensitiveness. The start-up is going to demonstrate the uniform to Commissioner of Police of Nagpur on Sunday. The city based company is going to launch the uniform on March 25 in Nagpur.
