Expressing satisfaction over the overall facilities provided to women jail inmates at Nagpur Central Jail, Abha Bijju Pande, Member of State Women’s Commission, said, “Women jail inmates should get legal help whenever they need. The jail lacks particular aspect. Other facilities like handling of children of inmates, their education, the quality of food are satisfactory.”
Pande visited Nagpur Central jail to review facilities provided to the inmates. Nagpur Jail has 78 women inmates. There are 7 children of average 6 years of age. She met the inmates and interacted with them.
“I had a talk with them individually in absence of the officers. I asked them to be open and talk without fear. They all told me the arrangements in the jail are satisfactory. I urged them to spend time in the jail in a constructive way. Utilise time for good deeds, read, perform yoga, take education,” pointed out Pande.
Abha Pande praised the working style of Deepa Aage, Jail Superintendent and her team. Aparna Kolhe, District Women and Child Development Officer; Aarti Mankar, Child Development Project Officer; Gulhane, Jail Officer, Ahire, Maya Dhature, Legal Advisor Suvarna Dhankute, Sunil Mahure, Chandrakant Bonde, Anil Rewatkar also were present.
