The State-run Maharashtra State Power Generation Company Limited (MSPGL) has achieved the 8,000 MW power generation target set by Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray.
Continuing its march forward, MahaGenco, on Thursday, posted best ever generation figures of 8,018 MW in history as its turned on all thermal power units.
Last week, amidst fears of load-shedding, Chief Minister reviewed the electricity situation with Energy Minister Dr Nitin Raut and officials of MahaGenco and Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited.
Looking at the scenario where heat wave is set to intensify, the Chief Minister desired that MahaGenco’s internal generation be increased to meet the rising demand for power in the State. Then, MahaGenco was producing around 6,500 MW and was trying to balance the coal stock as some of the units were shut for want of coal for regular power generation. But following the directives, MahaGenco team along with officials of Energy Department got down to brasstracks and one-by-one all thermal power units were brought on the stream. Thermal power production reached nearly 7,000 MW while the installed capacity is above 10,000 MW. All units at Chandrapur Super Thermal Power Station (CSTPS) were turned on and one of the closed units at Nasik, too, commended production.
Meanwhile, Dr Raut, on Thursday, took stock of power situation in a joint meeting with officials of MahaGenco and MSEDCL.
On Thursday, MSEDCL managed power supply of 24,700 MW to State, excluding Mumbai, indicating the tremendous rise in demand. All 27 thermal power units are functioning simultaneously for first time to ensure that there was no shortfall in supply. Now, for almost a week, no load-shedding was needed in any part of the State. But beyond that most creditable achievement is that farm sector was getting eight hours supply at stretch despite power crunch.
On the historic day, MahaGenco supplied 7,679 MW, form Central pool, 5,434 MW was drawn; 1,430 MW form Koyna Hydro project, 2,883 from Adani, 1,092 MW from Solar, 460 MW from Wind generation, 194 from EMCO, 735 from CGPL, 151 MW from Sai Wardha, 905 MW from Co-generation, and 342 MW from other sources.
