Smoky smell detection forces IndiGo flight to make emergency landing

smoky smell detection in the aft hold area of aircraft compelled an IndiGo Ahmedabad-Nagpur-Lucknow flight number 6E- 7074 to make an emergency landing at Nagpur’s Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport on Monday.
The flight departed to its
destination at about 7.57 in the morning with 49 passengers and one infant on board.
When in air, the pilot in command sent a message to Air Traffic Control (ATC) regarding an emergency in the aircraft due to smoky smell detection in the aft hold area of the aircraft. Accordingly around 8.33 the aircraft landed at Nagpur Airport.
After safe landing, the flight was taken to the bay No 14. The airline staff, 3 Airport fire tenders, 2 airport fire ambulance, 1 Kingsway Hospital Ambulance, 1 MI room duty doctor reached the spot to deal with any mishap.
Fire in-charge went inside the aircraft and found everything normal. Further investigation was done by airlines engineer. At 8.45 am, all the passengers were deboarded including the infant and 4 crew members. They were taken to terminal building through arrival Airside gate in domestic arrival hall.
At 10.08 am engineer declared grounding of the flight. Accordingly airlines adjusted the passengers (46-adult+1 infant +3 children) cancelling the journey. Of the 49 passengers, 30 were adjusted in Delhi flight 6E-6026 who wished to travel via Delhi.
Seven passengers were adjusted in Lucknow flight 6E-7074 that will take off on Tuesday. ‘The Hitavada’ tried to contact Airport Manager of IndiGo for confirmation but didn’t get response.
