A sudden fire broke out in the head office of MPIDC (Madhya Pradesh Industrial Development Corporation Limited) at Udyamita Bhawan located at Jail Road in the State capital on Friday morning. Due to this, all the documents kept in the offices located on the fourth floor of the Udyamita Bhawan were burnt to ashes along with other electrical equipment. After four hours of effort, more than 50 firefighters brought the fire under control. It took the help of more than 15 fire fighting vehicles to douse the fire.
Almost everything was gutted in the fire that broke out in the head office of MPIDC and about 15 years old records were also burnt. Many files turned into ashes even after being kept on the shelves. These were industry related files. Apart from this, many electronic devices including AC, computer, CCTV cameras were also burnt. The reason for the fire has not yet been revealed. Apart from the police, investigation is also being done at the departmental level.
The head office of MPIDC has been operating in Udyamita Bhawan for many years. A new building of MPIDC is being constructed behind the building itself. The fire in the office before it is shifted has raised many brows. However, the officers assert they will comment only after the investigation. MD John Tinsley said that the entire record has been burnt by the fire. Extinguishing the fire on the fourth floor became a big challenge: The fire had engulfed the entire fourth floor of the building. It was a big challenge for the firemen to extinguish the fire which started at a height of about 80 feet. For this the help of a crane was also taken. Firefighters were deployed around the building. Water was showered inside by breaking the glass on the front side. The fire was brought under control after about three hours, but the files in the shelves were already burnt. The part of the building where the files related to industries from across the state were kept has completely burnt. The fire had spread to another part of the building as well, but firefighters brought it under control in time. The office gate was locked after the fire was extinguished. No one is being allowed inside.
