A fire broke out in Mahavir Hardware, the hardware and furniture shop of the city’s main market, on recently due to unknown reasons. In this incident, plastic materials including Coolers, Oil Paints, Ply, Foam Plastics, TV, LED kept in the shop were burnt to ashes. At the same time, other items kept in the shop got burnt in the fire and got ruined. The accident happened when the market was completely closed, if the fire had happened in day time, then the entire market of Damua could have suffered.
In the accident, the owner of the shop, Subhash Agarwal, has suffered a loss of Rs 15 to 20 lakh. On Thursday, shop owner Subhash Agarwal had gone out for some work. The shop was handled by his wife Krishna Aggarwal throughout the day. She had gone home after closing the shop at 8 pm. When people saw smoke rising from the shutters and roof of the shop at night, the trader was informed. By then the market was crowded with people. Nearby shopkeepers tried to extinguish the fire by pouring water from buckets. Somebody informed the Deputy Chairman, Subhash Gulbake so that the fire brigade could be rushed to the spot. The local people informed JE S K Sinha of the electricity department and the staff of the local electricity department. By the time the electricity department immediately switched off the power, the fire brigade staff of Municipality had also reached the spot. The fire was brought under control by the high pressure pump of the fire brigade with a hard effort of about two hours. The main road of Damua market has become narrow due to encroachment by shopkeepers due to which fire tenders faced problem in reaching the spot. The fire tenders reached the spot via the old bus stand and the fire was brought under control. Apart from the main market, the need to make encroachment free from Gujari Bazaar located in MPI Ground, road leading to Durga Mandir and the road leading to the main market from the barrier intersection is felt.
