SCORCHING summer heat with high relative humidity is raising discomfort for people all over Vidarbha for the last many days and it is expected the searing temperature will continue for some time.
On Sunday, temperature breached 46 degrees Celsius in Chandrapur, which was the hottest place in Maharashtra. Similarly, Bramhapuri (45.9 degrees Celsius), Wardha (45.6 degrees Celsius), Nagpur (45.1 degrees Celsius) and Amravati (45.0 degrees Celsius) crossed the 45 degrees mark on Sunday. Akola, Gondia and Yavatmal recorded the maximum temperature of 44.5 degrees Celsius each.
The main summer months — April, May and June — are always hot in Central India before monsoon rains bring cooler temperatures, but the early heat wave in April this year, became unbearable for everyone.
Normally, the summer in Vidarbha is dry, but due to some cyclonic circulation, the weather changed and the relative humidity has also increased by 20-30 per cent from the beginning of May. Increase in relative humidity became an additional burden on people.
For Nagpur, in the first 15 days of May, the maximum temperature was recorded above 44 degrees Celsius on 11 occasions. Whereas the minimum temperature was recorded above 25 degrees Celsius in all days.
On two occasions, the minimum temperature crossed the 30 degrees Celsius mark.
Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted that, pre-monsoon activities will intensify in Central India after May 20 with cloudy weather. However, these activities will hardly give respite from scorching summer heat till monsoon.
On Sunday, Buldhana recorded the highest 56% relative humidity, which was recorded during night time. Similarly, Bramhapuri (53%), Gondia and Washim also recorded the humidity level above 50%. Akola (49%), Amravati (37%), Chandrapur (23%), Gadchiroli (44%), Nagpur (38%) and Wardha (38%) also recorded humidity above 20%.
The minimum temperature, on Sunday, all over Vidarbha, was also on higher side.
Wardha recorded the highest minimum temperature with 31.8 degrees Celsius whereas Akola, Amravati, Bramhapuri and Chandrapur also recorded the maximum temperature above 31 degrees.
