The South-East Central Railways (SECR) Zone in Chhattisgarh once again hogged the media limelight on Monday evening by successfully operating the longest freight train by amalgamating four rakes of coal-laded good trains as one unit of around 2.8 kilometres. SECR dubbed this special freight train as Super Shesh-Naag.
Earlier in January 2021, the SECR had operated the longest-ever freight train by amalgamating five rakes of good trains – comprising 300 wagons – as solo long haul rakes of around 3.5 kilometre, which is a record so far.
Prior to this, the SECR, which is also nation’s most profit-making railway zone, had operated 177 loaded wagons Super Anaconda of 2 km long freight train on June 2020, by connecting three goods trains using the latest technology of Distributed Power Control System (DPCS). Meanwhile, as per information received from SECR official sources, the long-haul rake of four goods train Super Shesh-Naag covered the distance of nearly 224 kilometres between the railway stations of Korba and Bhilai in around 7 seven hours. The train comprising 237 wagons and four guard boxes was operated by four electric locomotives with the help of 12 crew members, the sources added. As per the sources, the coal-laded train departed from Korba at 12 noon on Monday and it passed through Raipur (Silyari station) at 6.10 pm. However, the super train was later bifurcated into two rakes from Bhilai Power House onwards and from here it proceeded to its further journey from Durg to Nagpur. “All the concerned officials of SECR kept a thorough watch on the movement on the train to overcome any technical glitches that might affect its operation since the long haul rake passed through various stations,” the sources added.
