Maharashtra’s Public Health Minister Rajesh Tope, on Monday, told ‘The Hitavada’ that Nagpur’s first District Hospital would become
functional in next two months. This is for the first time that people of Nagpur district will be able to avail the facilities of District Hospital, since Department of Public Health came into existence.
“The multispeciality hospital will come up with estimated cost of Rs 28,48,70,000. Till now, over 90% of the fund, allocated for the project, has been released. The building has been constructed using the fund. Now, some minor things are to be incorporated. This is a very ambitious project as it will have every single facility including
surgery, cancer treatment, diagnostic tools like CT scan, MRI. We are trying to give the best healthcare facilities at this
hospital,” explained Tope while speaking to ‘The Hitavada’ at the residence of Anil Deshmukh, former Home Minister of Maharashtra. He was in Nagpur for a day’s visit.
At present the construction of main building, ware house office, electrification, wards, offices has been completed. This hospital is situated at Mankapur and is Ground floor+ two floors.
“Normally, hospitals are developed but posts are not filled. But in case of this district hospital, we have
created 19 posts including 8 posts on regular basis and 11 posts of the people having specialised skills. Of these, posts of Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent, Senior Clerk, Statistician, Public Health Nurse. I am considering this hospital is my own project and I shall make it functional within two months,” said Tope firmly.
Once the hospital gets functional, it will be a big respite for the staff of Public Health Department as most of them are working in the premises of hospitals owned by Medical Education Department.
For example, since long Civil Surgeon is working in the office housed in the premises of Indira Gandhi Government Medical College and Hospital (IGGMCH). IGGMCH comes under Department of Medical Education. The office of Civil Surgeon is very old and it’s in a bad shape.
The facilities provided in this office are not upto the standard. When Tope took charge as Public Health Minister, he was shocked to know that there was no district hospital at an important place like Nagpur. Though project was sanctioned in 2016, it was moving at a snails pace. Tope gave momentum to this 100-bedded hospital.
