The Congress has opened its cards in selection of candidates for the post of Mayor for the ensuing urban body elections. Now it’s BJP’s turn to decide candidates. The Madhya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC), late in the night on Thursday, released the list of 15 candidates for the post of Mayor. It has fielded Jagat Bahadur Singh ‘Annu’ from Jabalpur.
The Congress has put psychological pressure on Bharatiya Janata Party by releasing the list of candidates for the Mayoral post. Now BJP has to make hurry as Congress would not waste time and start election campaigning at the earliest possible. The BJP has also a pressure to field the candidate who could give tough fight to Annu, as the Congress candidate has a clean image, he is very active in social as well as political activities.
At present Jagat Bhadur Singh is holding the post of City President of Congress Committee. He is the favorite of all party MLAs, who voted him unanimously during the meeting held recently under the leadership of PCC President Kamal Nath at State Capital.
After fielding Annu in the fray, the Congress has no doubt made the fight tough for the BJP, which is still to make
consensus on one name. As per the party sources, the State leadership is working on to finalise the candidate for Jabalpur from the names including Kamlesh Agrawal, Sandeep Jain, Prabhat Sahu, Abhilash Pandey and Dr Jitendra Jamdar. However, Kamlesh Agrawal, who is also the former M-i-C member and who remain active in social activities has deemed as probable candidate. Sources informed that the BJP may declare the names for post of Mayor after its Core Committee meeting likely to be held on Saturday or Sunday.
