The tussle over the Bharatiya Janata Party’s Mayoral candidate in Jabalpur has come to an end as the State Election Committee of the party has, on Tuesday, declared Dr Jitendra Jamdar as the candidate for the top post.
The Congress has already declared City President Jagat Bahadur Singh as the Mayoral candidate. Now there will be a direct and tough fight between Singh and Dr Jamdar in Jabalpur.
It may be noted that Dr Jitendra Jamdar is the Vice-Chairman of Madhya Pradesh Jan Abhiyan Parishad with the status of Minister of State. He is very close to Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan. He has also been Incharge of Narmada Parikrama Yatra.
Being a doctor by profession, Jamdar also has a social image. He has a great support of people associated with the medical profession in the city. He is also considered as close to the RSS top bosses.
In the past, Dr Jamdar had claimed ticket for the post of MLA from the West Legislative Assembly. But, he was assured of making him the mayoral candidate. Hence, his claim was being considered as a strong one.
With declaration of Dr Jamdar’s name, there will be a tough fight between the arch rivals, BJP and Congress for the post of Mayor. Both Dr Jamdar and Singh have a clean image. They are socially active and have good contact with the public. Congress candidate Jagat Bhadur Singh is holding the post of City President of Congress Committee.
