ACHIEVEMENT: JNAU scientists develop new variety of millet

Scientists associated with the Jawaharlal Nehru Agriculture University (JNAU) have developed a new variety of millet (Bajra) i.e. J.P.M.-18-7 for farmers under All India Forage Research Project being conducted under JNAU.
Vice-Chancellor, JNAU, Dr Pradeep Kumar Bisen congratulated JNAU’s scientists for their national-level achievement and appreciated them for continuously developing new varieties after intense research, for farmer’s progress. Earlier also, the University’s scientists have developed new varieties of soyabean, wheat, paddy and other grains to make farming a profitable business for farmers.
It may be mentioned that out of 24 centres from across the country which attended the workshop held at Shere-Kashmir Agriculture University, Srinagar under All India Forage Research Project sponsored by Indian Council of Agricultural Research, the scientists from Madhya Pradesh’s JNAU have developed Jawahar Bajra J.P.M.-18-7 under Forage Project.
This variety, selected for 20 States across the country, is identified for better production of green forage and seeds with higher percentage of protein ratio, fibre, dry fodder and plant’s height. Agriculture scientists, Dr. AK Mehta, Dr.
SK Bilaiya, Dr. Amit Jha, Dr. SB Das, Dr. Pushpendra Yadav, Dr. Aarti Shrivastava and Dr. NS Raghuvanshi rendered remarkable contribution for developing this new variety.bSimultaneously, the scientists were also bestowed with awards during the national workshop for nutrition management in oat.
