For the family of Lieutenant (Lt) P Saieesh Rao, it was a day filled with pride as their son passed out as officer of Indian Army after the passing out parade held recently at Indian Military Academy (IMA) in Dehradun. This achievement added another feather to the cap of the family. Lt Saieesh’s parents are already serving the nation as army officers.
Lt Saieesh’s mother Lt Col Geeta Siddhanti and father Col P V Rao, from Krishna district of Andhra Pradesh, were present during the passing out ceremony at IMA and witnessed the induction of their son as an officer in Indian Army.
Lt Col Geeta Siddhanti, who is with the Ordnance Corps, and Col Rao, in Service Corps, told that often the couple used to smile after noticing that their young son while growing up ‘gazed in awe’ at their uniform.
“Our child knew right then that he would follow our footsteps and become an officer in the Indian Army. That was what he dreamt of since his childhood,” Lt Col Siddhanti said as their son saluted them.
“From a young age, Saieesh has seen both of us in olive green at home. Apart from us, my brother Ajinkya (Saieesh’s maternal uncle) is also a serving Colonel,” added the proud mother.
Saieesh had cracked the JEE Mains in 2018 but he applied for National Defence Academy (NDA) instead. After completing the three-year course, he got into IMA and got commissioned as an officer.
Col Rao said, “Our son will now join us to serve our country. As parents, what more can we ask for? It’s a moment of immense pride for us.”
Lt Saieesh, who has been commissioned into the Gorkha Rifles, said, “I got the motivation in my home. I am grateful that I am able to join them in service to my country.” Lt Col Geeta is daughter of Ambadas and Aruna Siddhanti, resident of Ramdaspeth. Lt Col Geeta completed her BSc from Dharampeth Science College and MSc from Nagpur University campus.
