Mukherjee takes sole lead

RUPAM Mukherjee of West Bengal took sole lead with six and half points at end of seven rounds of the GH Raisoni Chess Classical FIDE Rating Chess Tournament currently in progress at GH Raisoni Institute of Engineering, Wadi Hingna Road, Nagpur.
The event is being organised by GH Raisoni Sports and Cultural Foundation jointly with Kalpana Prakash Welfare Foundation and recognised by Chess Association Nagpur, Maharashtra Chess Association, All India Chess Federation and FIDE.
On the top board, the game between overnight joint leaders IM Anwesh Upadhyay of Bhuvaneshwar and Siddhant Gawai of Nagpur ended in a draw. The game was Guico Piano with both players holding on to their respective forts. The game ended in a draw after 59 moves.
On the second Board, Rupam Mukherjee of West Bengal scored a victory against Nagpur youngster Vivaan Saraogi. Vivaan replied with Grunfield defence to Queen Pawn opening of Mukherji. However, Mukherji used his experience to score a victory in long-fought battle of 75 moves.
Six players — Anwesh Upadhayay, Siddhant Gawai, Indrajit Mahindrakar, Arnav Kherdekar, Mandar Lad and Jay Sawalakhe are on the second spot with 6 points to their credit.
Pramodraj Moree, International Arbiter along with his team of Arbiters consisting of Dy Arbiters Ajinkya Pingle and Pravin Thakare; Arbiters Prayas Amabde, Shubham Soni, Amit Tembhurne and others are working for smooth conduct of the event.
