Mukherjee wins crown

RUPAM Mukherjee of West Bengal won the GH Raisoni Chess Classical FIDE Rating Chess Tournament which concluded at GH Raisoni Institute of Engineering, Wadi Hingna Road, Nagpur on Thursday.
The chess festival is being organised by GH Raisoni Sports and Cultural Foundation jointly with Kalpana Prakash Welfare Foundation and recognised by Chess Association Nagpur, Maharashtra Chess Association, All India Chess Federation and FIDE.
The Bengal lad emerged champion with nine points from 10 rounds. On the top board, Mukherjee needing just half point in the last round for the title, drew his game against Lad.
Top seed IM Anwesh Upadhyay defeated Mradul Yadav of Nagpur to score eight and half points to bag the second spot. Third prize was won by Siddhant Gawai who scored a victory in the last round over Vivaan Saraogi of Nagpur. Indrajit Mahindrakar and Mandar Lad finished at fourth and fifth positions.
Mukherjee got richer by Rs 50000 whereas Upadhyay and Gawai got Rs 30000 and Rs 25000 respectively. Apart from main prizes, prizes were distributed to Best Unrated, Best Vidarbha Player, Best Nagpur Player, Best Veteran Above-55, Best Woman Player, Best Below-1601 Rated Player, Best Below 1301 Player.
Prizes were distributed at the hands of Girish Pandav, General Secretary, MPCC and Adv Nishant Gandhi, President, Chess Association, Nagpur. SS Soman, Working President, Chess Association, Nagpur and Bhushan Shriwas, Secretary of Kalpana Prakash Welfare Foundation and Chess Association Nagpur were also present on the dais.
The GH Raisoni Memorial Rapid FIDE Rating Chess Tournament starts on Friday at 9.30 am.
A team of GH Raisoni Sports and Cultural Foundation and Kalpana Prakash Welfare Foundation worked hard for smooth organisation of the classical part of the event.
