ALL ninety MLAs of Chhattisgarh have exercised their franchise in the Presidential election at the polling station located at Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly premises on Monday. Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, Speaker of Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly Dr Charan Das Mahant, Leader of Opposition in Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly Dharamlal Kaushik, former Chief Minister and Rajnandgaon MLA Dr Raman Singh, cabinet ministers Mohammad Akbar, Ravindra Choubey, Amarjeet Bhagat, Dr Premsai Singh Tekam, Guru Rudra Kumar, Dr Shiv Kumar Dahariya, Anila Bhendia, Umesh Patel, Dr Premsai Singh Tekam, Kawasi Lakhma, Kondagaon MLA Mohan Markam and other MLAs exercised their franchise in the Presidential Election. The polling began at 10 am. At first, Kurud BJP MLA Ajay Chandrakar cast his vote for the presidential election at Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly premises. More than 50 MLAs cast their votes within three hours. All 90 MLAs cast their votes by 3 pm. 71 Congress MLAs, 14 BJP MLAs, three Janta Congress Chhattisgarh (Jogi) MLAs and two Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) MLs cast their votes in the presidential election at Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly premises. The Congress party extended its support to presidential candidate of opposition parties Yashwant Sinha while BJP, Janta Congress Chhattisgarh (Jogi) and BSP extended their support to NDA candidate Draupadi Murmur. Prior to the polls, all arrangements were in place at Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly premises for the smooth conduct of the sixteenth Presidential election. After the polling the ballot box was sealed and sent to Delhi by a regular flight on Monday evening. The counting will take place in New Delhi on July 21. Election Commission of India (ECI) had provided special pens for marking of votes. The pen was given to the electors in the polling station by the designated official when the ballot paper was handed over. There were a total of 4809 members including 233 Rajya Sabha members, 543 Lok Sabha members and 4033 members of state legislatures. The value of an MP's vote in this presidential election is 700 while the value of a Chhattisgarh MLA is 129. There was a direct fight between NDA candidate Draupadi Murmur and the candidate of all opposition parties Yashwant Sinha in the presidential election.
