City’s Ramteke emerges joint topper

Three players namely IM Anwesh Upadhyay, Indrajit Mahindrakar and Nagpur’s Sumedh Ramteke share the lead with six points each at the end of sixth round of the GH Raisoni Memorial Open Rapid Rating Chess Tournament being held at GH Raisoni Institute of Engineering, Wadi Hingna Road.
The tournament is jointly organised by GHRaisoni Sports and Cultural Foundation and Kalpana Prakash Welfare Foundation under the aegis of Chess Association Nagpur, Maharashtra Chess Association, All India Chess Federation and FIDE. Another Nagpurian Siddhant Gawani is a joint second spot with 5.5 points. The others securing second spot are Sahil Gorghate, Krishna Karthik and Mangal Prasad.
Sumedh Ramteke stunned second seed CM Pawan Dodeja in the sixth round to keep his slate clean with all wins so far. Prateek Chandwani also created a flutter in fifth round when he defeated FM Akash Thakur of Nagpur.
Earlier, the tournament was inaugurated by Adv Chetan Rajkarne, Vice-President, Chess Association Nagpur and a noted social worker by playing a move.
Also present on the occasion were SS Soman, Working President, Chess Association, Nagpur and Bhushan Shriwas, Secretary, Kalpana Prakash Welfare Foundation and Chess Association Nagpur.
The tournament is being conducted in Rapid format with 15 minutes plus five seconds increment for each move.
Pramodraj Moree, International Arbiter alongwith his team of Arbiters consisting of Dy Arbiters Ajinkya Pingle and Pravin Thakare and Arbiters Shubham Soni, Amit Tembhurne, Swati Kumbhalkar, Prayas Ambade, Shital Panbude, Gayatri Panbude, Sudhanshu Gaidhane, Shyam Agrawal, Akash Payasi and Shishir Indurkar are officiating the event. A team of GH Raisoni Sports and Cultural Foundation and Kalpana Prakash Welfare Foundation are working hard for smooth conduct of the event.
