IN a horrific road accident, driver of a trailer was burnt alive when the recklessly-driven vehicle caught fire after colliding with another trailer parked on the roadside in a locality under Sakri police station limits on intervening night of Monday and Tuesday. The skeleton of the driver was recovered from the cabin on Tuesday morning.
According to the information, the deceased has been identified as 27-year-old Shiv Kumar Yadav, son of Ramjee Yadav, a native of Bhimkheda under Dhansai police station limits in district Buxar of Bihar. He used to drive a trailer of a Bilaspur-based transporter.
On Monday night, he was on the way to Balodabazar to load cement which was supposed to be transported to Aurangabad. At around 4:00 am when the trailer reached near Kopra reservoir between Belmundi and Saida under Sakri police station limits, it collided with another trailer parked on the roadside.
The impact of collision was so severe that the trailer was badly damaged and caught fire. The driver got trapped in the cabin and was burnt alive.
Seeing the trailer engulfed by fire, some local residents reported to Sakri police. The patrol team reached the spot and called a fire tender which tried to extinguish the fire but by the time the trailer was already gutted.
Confirming the incident, Sakri Station House Officer Paurush Purre, who also visited the spot on Tuesday morning, said, “When I reached the spot, I saw the trailer engulfed in fire and efforts were on to douse the flames”. After the trailer cooled remains (skeleton) of the driver was found trapped in the steering. A crane was called to remove the damaged vehicle so as to resume the traffic movement.
It took six hours to retrieve the remains of the body with a gas cutter. There was none in the other trailer at the time
of collision.
Meanwhile, it was rumoured that trailer’s helper Rajkamal was also present in the vehicle at the time of mishap. “Nothing can be said about it as it is a matter of investigation”, the SHO said.
