Due to continuous downpour in Madhya Pradesh, the water level of rivers as well as reservoirs has increased.
According to the report of the flood disaster control room there has been a significant rise in the water level of rivers and dams which include Kaliasot Dam of Bhopal, Indira Sagar Dam of Khandwa, Aukareshwar Dam of Khargone, Parvati River, Betwa River, Narmada River, Ken River, Kolar Dam, Kerwa Dam, Gandhi Sagar Dam, Retan Barrage, Tawa Dam.
Additional Chief Secretary inspected dams: In western Madhya Pradesh, the water level of rivers has increased due to about 46 per cent more rainfall than expected. In more than 15 dams of the state, 70-90 per cent water has been filled. Due to the heavy rains this time, the gates of most of the dams in the state have to be opened from the second week of July. In this sequence, Additional Chief Secretary S N Mishra and ENC Madan Singh Dabur inspected Kaliasot Dam and Kerwa Dam located in Bhopal. During this, the concerned officers of the department were also present. During the inspection, the Additional Chief Secretary was informed that the inflow of water is increasing day by day due to heavy rains. In such a situation, the gates of most of the dams located in the state are being opened.
Alert nearby residents before releasing water: While directing the officials, he said that in the event of release of water from the dam, the people living near the dam have to be alerted first, only then the water should be released. So as not avoid any kind of emergency situation. Mishra said that the officers of the department have been directed to release water according to the arrival of water in the catchment area so that the situation remains normal.
Continuous increase in the water level of the reservoirs: According to the information received from the department, the water level of rivers has increased due to continuous rainfall in the catchment area and the state. According to the Water Resources Department, farmers are going to be benefited a lot due to the availability of water in the reservoirs and the onset of rains on time. This year, farmers have enough water in dams and other reservoirs for paddy cultivation and for irrigating Rabi crops. Farmers will not face any kind of difficulties for irrigating their crops. Gates opened of about one and a half dozen dams: At present, 91.20 per cent was is full in Kaliasot Dam due to increased inflow of water after to heavy rains. In such a situation, the gates of Bhadbhada, Kaliasot, Kerwa, dams have also been opened in Bhopal. 18 gates of Omkareshwar Dam located in Khargone have been opened. 8 gates of Rajghat dam have been opened. 12 gates of Indira Sagar Dam of Khandwa have to be opened. Apart from this, a situation has arisen for opening the gates of about one and a half dozen dams in the State. In view of this, the officers of the Water Resources Department are continuously inspecting and sending reports to the concerned officers and the minister of the department. Senior officials of the department are also keeping an eye on the condition of the dams. Electricity production increased due to more inflow water: While the state is facing problems due to heavy rains, on the other hand, power generation has been done as per capacity from Omkareshwar Dam in Khargone and Indira Sagar Dam in Khandwa. Electricity output has also increased compared to before the water in the reservoirs.
