The decision of adopting Home Centre system for summer examinations this year is showing more disadvantages than advantages to Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University (RTMNU) Examination Department. Incidents of paper-leak, use of cellphones are on rise at various centres this year. The university authorities are trying to ensure exams are conducted in a fair manner, but failed as most colleges are supporting the alleged malpractice. This year, the university is conducting summer examinations in a multiple choice questions-based offline mode.
To avoid any untoward incident, the university has decided to upload question paper, one-and-a half hours prior to the scheduled time of the exam. The procedure is, a person with the respective college is authorised to type the password and take printouts as per the requirement of the Centre to distribute among the examinees.
The system does not have any direct control of the university and some colleges are taking undue advantage. After a city engineering college and one in Gondia, on Friday, another college in city, Priyadarshini College of Engineering witnessed the incident of the paper getting viral. Timely visit of Dr Praful Sable, Director of Board of Examinations and Evaluation could avoid further damage. Dr Sable asked Principal of the College to cancel the examination. The same will be held later. When The Hitavada took up the issue with Dr Sable, he admitted that the incidents of making paper viral, illegal use of cellphones are on the rise. “I am daily visiting the examination centres.
The university has issued guidelines much before the examinations where the colleges are asked to take all precautions. But we found colleges have failed to curb malpractice. The university will forward the cases to Disciplinary Action Committee (DAC) for proper action.”
Five cellphones seized from students The flying squads of RTMNU are continuously visiting the examination centres to curb use of unfair means by the students. A squad, led by Dr Praful Sable, Director of Board of Examinations and Evaluation, is visiting exam centres. On Saturday, Dr Sable got information that students were using cellphones while writing paper at St George College in Shanti Nagar. Dr Sable-led squad reached the centre and found six students writing Computer Science paper. On checking, the squad members found five of them possessing cellphone. “We seized the cellphones and sent the detailed report to the DAC. We are surprised over such developments. It is surprising. How can colleges allow students to carry cellphones inside the examination centres?” Dr Sable questioned.
