After opening of all 16 gates of Navegaon-Khairi dam, the water level of Kanhan river has increased and its inching closer to flood mark. The result of heavy inflow of water is increase in turbidity level to 10,000 NTU.
The incessant rains in the upstream has led to heavy flow of mud and vegetation causing frequent choking of intake well strainers (Juni Kamptee) at Kanhan Water Treatment Plant as well as dry well strainers on right side.
Due to frequent strainer clogging issues in Kanhan WTP, residents of North, East and parts of South Nagpur are suffering due to restricted and low pressure water supply. Rising to challenge, Orange City Water have trained its local divers in Scuba Diving and they are cleaning the strainer blockage more efficiently than earlier.
Earlier, local divers engaged for cleaning the choked strainers faced severe hardships under the water. But post training in scuba diving and equipped with scuba equipment, the divers can work easier go inside deep water and clean strainers. Following which pumping from the intake well is going on smoothly. As a result, sufficient water is being lifted from the intake well for treatment at Kanhan WTP and will be supplied to Kanhan feeder areas like Aasi Nagar Zone, Lakadganj Zone , Satranjipura Zone and Nehru Nagar Zone.
