AFTER conducting a field survey, City Police have identified 234 spots prone to water-logging and often cause traffic-jams during monsoon in the Second Capital of the State. Cops also identified more than 60 road stretches with potholes that result in fatal accidents.
The list of such dangerous spots and casual approach of the authorities concerned in safely executing the ongoing ‘development projects’ was handed over to the mediapersons by the police on Thursday. The field survey by the cops revealed that of the 234 spots and stretches prone to water-logging and accidents, 130 fall under the jurisdiction of Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NIT), 32 under National Highway Authority of India (NHAI), 14 under PWD (World Bank project), 11 under Metro Rail Corporation, four Kamptee Nagar Parishad, one each under PWD, Besa Gram Panchayat and Pipla Gram Panchayat. The remaining spots are under Nagpur Improvement Trust (NIT) and other agencies.
Even ongoing ‘development’ projects and incomplete construction works are affecting smooth flow of vehicular traffic. To initiate immediate steps, the Traffic Police have approached the NMC, NHAI, PWD, Metro Rail Corporation and other agencies to take corrective steps.
