The Nagpur Metro on Monday (Independence Day) clocked its highest single-day ridership of 90,758 passengers. The all-time high ridership before this was on June 26 this year when a record 66,428 commuters rode the metro train, officials said. The ridership of Nagpur Metro has been steadily increasing with the passage of time. The Metro rail recorded a peak of 56,406 on January 26, 2021 (Republic Day). However, the ridership on January 26, 2021 matches the number of commuters who travel on regular weekdays! The Nagpur Metro has neared one lakh mark and could easily cross 1.5 lakh mark, once the remaining two lines (Kasturchand Park-Automotive Square Metro Station) and (Sitabuldi Interchange-Prajapati Nagar Metro Station) get operational, said a Nagpur Metro official. He claimed that the record ridership was achieved because of the multiple steps taken by the Metro authorities like providing commuter friendly facilities at Metro Stations, Providing Feeder Service, Maha Card and Mobile App, Increasing Train Timings etc.
The trend of highest ever ridership was felt right in the morning and continued throughout the day, he said. The rush was evident right since morning and picked up as the day passed on. Though it rained almost all through the day, it could not dampen the interest of the citizens, as they ventured out of the house for a metro ride, the official said.
An exhibition on Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav (AKAM) jointly organised by Maha Metro and Central Bureau of Communication, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India
was another attraction for the commuters.
