State Excise Department team seizes truck smuggling spirit

Acting swiftly, a team of State Excise Department of Nagpur foiled an attempt of miscreants to smuggle spirit. The staff of Excise Department seized a truck with consignment of spirit in large quantity.
According to information, acting on a tip-off a team of State Excise Department while patrolling near Butibori intercepted a truck bearing number MH-40 CD-3421 near Mauza Wadad, taluka Umrer. Initially, during search of the vehicle, nothing inside was found.
Getting suspicious over long body of the truck with relatively small carriage compartment, the team minutely checked the vehicle. Suspecting something fishy, the team during another check noticed a small space covered by tin. When it opened the cover, they were shocked to find ten drums, 200 liter capacity each, filled with spirit.
Immediately, the team seized the truck and the drums. The estimated collective cost of the 2,000 litre spirit and the truck is worth Rs 30,13,000.
According to the State Excise Department, the consignment documents were of Sanjay Kantaprasad Kardam, a resident of Ajni. Sharing the breakthrough with ‘The Hitavada’, Superintendent of Excise Surendra Manpriya, said, “Had our staff not suspected the unusual length of the truck, we could never have found out the illegally stocked spirit hidden in the chamber.
The miscreants hid the spirit in the ‘secret’ compartment and ment for use of making spurious liquor.
The action was taken under the guidance of Commissioner Kantilal Umap, Deputy Commissioner Mohan Varde, Surendra Manpiya. The officers including Excise Inspector Vijaykumar Thorat, Narendra Thorat, Praveen Mohatkar, Prashant Wankhede, Mukund Chitmatwar, Shirish Deshmukh, Sameer Syed, Dhawal Tijare, Rahul Sapkal and others were part of the team.
