JAY Sawalakhe took crown in the 58th edition of Nagpur District Weekend Rapid Chess Tournament that was organised by Nagpur District Chess Association in association with Dhanwate National College at NDCA Hall, Sports Complex, DNC, Congress Nagar.
Jay and Shaunak Badole both finished the seven-round tournament with six points apiece but due to better tie-break score, the former was declared champion. Shaunak had to be content with the second spot.
In the last round and playing with white pieces, both Jay and Shaunak defeated their rivals for a full point. While Shaunak defeated Sumedh Ramteke on the top board, Jay outsmarted Kushagra Paliwal on the second board. At end of the sixth round, Sumedh was the sole leader with 5.5 points against his name.
Prizes were distributed at the hands of Chief Arbiter Pravin Pantawane.
Final Ranking: Jay, Badole Shaunak (6 each), Ramteke Sumedh, Wairagade Khush (5½ each), Lohit Rushikesh, Ramteke Ayush (5 each), Kushagra Paliwal, Sabir Adnan, Shatakshi Awasthi (4½ each), Gajbhiye Sagar, Sharma Sai, Dutta Kanishq, Diwale Pranav, Vinay Barhanpure, Anshul Mahant, Vishwaditya Awasthi, Mahajan Sadanand (4 each).
